Searchlight RSS

We have a winner.

The new name is Searchlight RSS first mentioned by Birgit. As Birgit is my girlfriend she is of course not eligible for participation - sorry Birgit ;-)

Some may say that the name is not good, not creative, not fluent, not descriptive, … The liking of names is very subjective of course. Would it be different everyone has to be named “Steve” or “Davina”. I hope that nobody is upset about the fact that her or his favorite name has not won.

The following points made the decision for “Searchlight RSS”:

  1. there is some kind of similarity to Spotlight. I found out that Apple even had a trademark on Searchlight but abandoned that on July 29, 2005 (as they decided for Spotlight)
  2. Searchlight RSS says it all: Search for your Documents with Spotllight and subscribe through RSS.
  3. I’ve spend a lot of time on the icon and logo of the product and Searchlight fits best to this.

So what now? Does nobody get a reward?

I was overwhelmed by the reaction of you guys. Therefore I decided to add the category “Best Slogan” to the contest. So finally we have three winners. Lucas gets “50″ Euro as the winner of the best slogan category. Richard and Gerald each get “25″ Euro for being runner up. The price may also be paid in naturals like a dinner, breakfast, …

    I did not submit so many names because of the reward, just because of the ideas that sprung out of my head.

    Searchlight RSS is a good name (although it’s not from me;-)
    Why not give Birgit the reward?

    What about having breakfast together instead of Ca$h? - Birgit and Lukas allowed to eat more than the rest of us :-)
