Blog Reboot
It has been very quiet here over the last few weeks. Besides some comments I haven’t taken time for the blog. New and old things needed much of my attention. I’ll try to change this to keep this blog more constantly running.
As a start of this new area I changed a couple of things.
The obvious one is the new layout of the site (no change for RSS readers). I was tired of the old layout and wanted something more straight forward. As I was very busy I choose the famous Kubrick Theme and changed only some bits and the header image.
The blog title is now Coffee and Cocoa. The web address already reflects my name. Therefore there is no need to name the blog the same. Coffee and Cocoa reflects the primary content of this blog. On the one side I’ll write about life in Cocoa land. On the other side there are a lot of things I am experiencing with Java and its beans in my consulting jobs. Coffee is my favorite hot drink, too.
The right tools make life a lot easier. This blog is powered by Wordpress which provides a web interface for writing blog entries. I’m a big fan of web interfaces but I also like the tight integration of fat applications. Therefore I was looking for a blog client. After a lot of testing with different apps I decided to go with Ecto. It’s a wonderful application with a lot of nice features. The only drawback is that there is no universal binary, yet.
Since a couple of weeks I’m using Markdown a lot in different jobs. From the Markdown website: Markdown is a text-to-HTML conversion tool for web writers. Markdown allows you to write using an easy-to-read, easy-to-write plain text format, then convert it to structurally valid XHTML.
There is plugin for Wordpress in order to use Markdown for writing blog entries. This affects all new and past blog entries. I’ll had to change some of the old entries in order to render correct with Markdown. If your RSS reader is mentioning an update to some old entry just ignore it. It’s a side-effect of the conversion to Markdown.
more to come really soon - I’ll promise
